To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Link Asset Management Limited (Link) today (Friday) announced that it will hold a month-long cultural event – “From the Bund to the Harbour: Canton-Hong Kong Reconnected” – at Lok Fu Place, showcasing the rich historical, cultural and commercial ties between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, deepening the public understanding of the close cultural ties between the two cities, and bringing to life the concept that history is all around us.
The event is jointly hosted by Link, Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History and the Department of Chinese and History of City University of Hong Kong, co-organised by Guangzhou Liwan Museum, and guided by the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau. The exhibition will be held from 20 September to 17 October in the atrium of the UG2 floor at Zone B, Lok Fu Place.
Victor Tai, Under Secretary for Housing, Hu Jianguang, Deputy Division Director of the Division of Cultural Relics of the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Yi Xibing, Museum Director of Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History, and Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of City University of Hong Kong, joined Link’s Chief Corporate Development Officer Ronald Tham to co-host the opening ceremony of the exhibition today.
This exhibition is the first cultural event held by a Mainland Chinese museum in a shopping mall in Hong Kong. It is divided into three areas: "The Rise of the Bund", "Diverse Architecture Styles" and "Reminiscences of Canton-Hong Kong Connections", where the public will have the opportunity to enjoy 83 precious historical photographs up close, participate in various interactive displays such as audio-visual experiences, outdoor check-in devices, craft workshops and stamping activities. By tracing the historical process of land reclamation of Changdi in Guangzhou, the public can learn about the deep connections between Guangzhou and Hong Kong in various fields such as architecture, culture, commerce and trade that have been formed and intertwined since the 19th Century.
As a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the exhibition aims to deepen public understanding of the shared bond between Hong Kong and Guangdong, cultivate cultural self-confidence and regional identity, especially amongst the younger generation, and promote Chinese culture.
